Business Portraits
When Corporate Specifies tight headshots
Singularly the most important marketing tool in a business owners armoury, is the headshot, or business portrait. Premier headshots and business portraits in Chicagoland by David Simm, for doctors, lawyers, accountants, business and professional people, the first choice of small firms or large companies, like Wipfli, for whom David creates a constant stream of images for new hires.
What separates a good headshot from a poor quality mugshot?
First of all being prepared, when you go before the camera, making sure hair and makeup are how you would like your potential clients to see you.
At the session: your shoulders should not be square to the camera, a business portrait will look much more articulate if the shoulders are sloping just away from the camera.
Good lighting is extremely important, while it should be simple, pleasant shadows add shape to the face, clothing should complement your complexion and not least look professional and business like, but that doesn't mean you can't be casual.
These days the protocols for business attire are much more relaxed. Remember the image captured is precisely how it will look for quite a long time. You won't want to have a reshoot just because of an unfortunate choice of wardrobe.
Never fall for the excuse that it can be fixed in Photoshop, that is singularly the most expensive way to put right a very simple issue. Yes, scars and blemishes can be made less obvious or completely obliterated and most good headshot professionals will be happy to take care of them.
We do as a matter of course provide simple retouching as part of the package. All you need to do is let your photographer know if there are complexion issues that you wish to have corrected. If you know there is a side of your face that you find more appealing to the other, be aware that a photograph is not the same way round as you see yourself in the mirror. The mirror flip flops the real image of you, while a portrait is the view others see of you.
Finally; I am always happy to help people consider how they should dress and/or make up, but the best advice is to keep it simple.
